SMART GLASSES GLOSSARY

Smart Glasses Manufacturing Glossary

The abbreviations procurement engineers and brand product managers encounter when sourcing smart glasses in Shenzhen — defined in plain English, with links to the pages where the term is used in context.

TERMS A – F

A – F — definitions for sourcing smart glasses

AANC (Active Noise Cancellation)
Signal-processing that generates anti-phase sound to reduce ambient noise in the listener’s ear. On open-ear smart glasses, audio-call glasses usually rely on passive isolation and ENC rather than full ANC, because the ear remains unsealed.
AAOI (Automated Optical Inspection)
Camera-based inspection of PCBs after solder paste printing or reflow, catching missing, skewed or tombstoned components. AOI is a standard gate on the CYNRIN SMT line, complemented by ICT fixture testing.
AAQL (Acceptable Quality Limit)
The statistical sampling standard (ISO 2859 / ANSI Z1.4) that defines how many defective units are permitted in an inspected lot. CYNRIN applies agreed AQL levels at in-process and final inspection before shipment release; see quality control.
BBeamforming
Using multiple microphones with directional algorithms to focus voice capture toward the wearer and suppress surrounding noise. Beamforming arrays are part of the ENC tuning validated in the acoustic lab for call-focused glasses.
BBLE (Bluetooth Low Energy)
The power-efficient Bluetooth protocol used between smart glasses and phones for control, notifications and, with LE Audio / classic dual-mode stacks, voice and music. Range and coexistence are verified in the RF shielded room.
BBOM (Bill of Materials)
The complete list of components, materials and firmware versions that define a product, each with approved vendor and revision. A controlled BOM is what guarantees a reorder builds to the same unit as the golden sample.
CCE Marking
The marking confirming conformity with applicable EU regulations and directives for products sold in the European Economic Area. For smart glasses this draws on radio, EMC, RoHS and battery-transport evidence compiled by the manufacturer; see certifications.
DDDP (Delivered Duty Paid)
An Incoterms option under which the seller handles freight, insurance, import clearance and duties to the named destination — commonly requested by retail brands that want landed-cost certainty.
DDFM (Design for Manufacturing)
The review that red-lines a design for tolerance, assembly sequence, test access and cost before tooling is cut. CYNRIN typically returns a first DFM report within five working days of an RFQ.
DDVT (Design Verification Test)
The engineering phase verifying the design meets specification across electrical, optical, acoustic, mechanical and environmental tests. DVT precedes PVT in the ODM development sequence.
EEIS (Electronic Image Stabilization)
Camera processing that compensates for hand and head movement to smooth recorded video. EIS performance, alongside FOV and resolution, is a key spec on camera platforms such as the V03-T5; compare platforms here.
EENC (Environmental Noise Cancellation)
Microphone processing that removes background noise from the transmitted voice during calls — the other party hears the wearer more clearly. ENC tuning (mics, wind noise, beamforming) is verified on acoustic fixtures.
EEVT (Engineering Verification Test)
The first prototype build that proves electrical and mechanical function, usually hand-assembled from initial tooling or soft tools. EVT answers whether the design works; DVT whether it works reliably.
FFBA (Fulfillment by Amazon)
Amazon’s warehouse-fulfillment service. CYNRIN can carton, label and prep smart-glasses shipments to FBA specification, including battery MSDS and UN38.3 documents; see shipping & logistics.
FFCC Certification
US authorization for radio-frequency devices, required for Bluetooth products sold in the United States. Pre-scan data is captured in-house and formal certification is completed through third-party labs; see certifications.
FFCL (Full Container Load)
A shipment filling a full ocean container — the lowest per-unit freight mode for high-volume programs, typically used by distributors and retail DCs. Opposite: LCL.
FFOB (Free On Board)
An Incoterms option (commonly FOB Shenzhen) under which the seller delivers goods onto the named vessel and the buyer takes charge of main-haul freight. One of the standard options alongside EXW, CIF and DDP.
FFOV (Field of View)
For cameras, the horizontal angle the sensor captures; for AR displays, the angular size of the virtual image. Wide camera FOV suits first-person capture; for eyewear displays, larger waveguide FOV remains a major cost driver.
TERMS G – M

GGolden Sample
The signed, sealed master unit — often one per color and configuration — that defines the mass-production standard for appearance, function and packaging. Production lots are released against it; see samples.
IICT (In-Circuit Test)
Fixture-based electrical testing of a populated PCB that verifies component presence, value, orientation and basic continuity. ICT runs after AOI on the SMT line and catches defects visual inspection cannot.
IIncoterms
The International Chamber of Commerce terms defining where risk and cost transfer between seller and buyer. CYNRIN programs ship under EXW, FOB Shenzhen, CIF or DDP; see shipping & logistics.
IIP Rating (Ingress Protection)
IEC 60529 classification such as IPX4 for splash and sweat resistance. Sports and cycling frames target at least splash resistance; the rating must be validated by sealed test, not marketing copy. Relevant for sports programs.
LLCL (Less than Container Load)
Consolidated ocean freight for quantities below a full container — cost-efficient for trial orders and catalog MOQs around 500 units when speed is less critical than air freight.
MMOQ (Minimum Order Quantity)
The smallest order a factory accepts per program: 500 units for catalog OEM, 1,000 for branded OEM and 3,000–5,000 for custom ODM at CYNRIN. Tier details: MOQ by program.
MMP (Mass Production)
The sustained production phase after PVT sign-off, running at normal line speed with full process controls, AQL inspection and traceability. Typical lead times run 15–40 days by program; see lead times.
MMSDS / SDS (Safety Data Sheet)
The safety document for lithium-polymer batteries describing hazards, handling and transport. Together with UN38.3 it accompanies battery-product shipments and is required by airlines, forwarders and Amazon.
MMultipoint
A Bluetooth feature allowing the glasses to stay paired with two devices simultaneously — for example a laptop and a phone — and switch calls between them. Verify whether a reference platform supports it before specifying it in a program.
TERMS N – R

N – R — definitions for sourcing smart glasses

NNPI (New Product Introduction)
The structured process taking a product from design into production: DFM, tooling, EVT/DVT/PVT, pilot run and ramp. The CYNRIN NPI process is documented on the OEM and ODM pages.
NNRE (Non-Recurring Engineering)
One-time charges for custom development: design, PCBA layout, tooling, fixtures and certification. NRE may be amortizable into unit price on volume programs and does not recur on reorders.
OOEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)
In the smart-glasses industry, a factory that builds products to a brand’s specification under the brand’s name. CYNRIN OEM programs put your logo on proven platforms from 1,000 units; see OEM manufacturing.
OODM (Original Design Manufacturer)
A manufacturer that also designs the product, letting a brand license or customize an existing design — or co-develop a new one. ODM suits brands that need differentiated ID or features; see ODM services.
OOTA (Over-the-Air Update)
Wireless firmware delivery to devices already in customers’ hands. OTA extends usable product life by fixing bugs and adding features, and is scoped per branded SKU; see sustainability.
OOpen-ear Audio
Speaker designs (directed or near-canal) that leave the ear canal uncovered, letting wearers hear traffic and surroundings — the default architecture on CYNRIN audio and camera glasses.
PPCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly)
A bare PCB populated with components. CYNRIN produces mainboards and flex boards in-house on automated SMT lines with AOI and ICT verification rather than brokering them out.
PPhotochromic Lenses
Lenses that darken automatically under UV light and clear indoors. Available as a lens option on branded programs and validated on the optical bench for transition behavior, transmittance and UV400.
PPolarized Lenses
Lenses with a polarizing filter that blocks glare from water, roads and snow — a premium option for cycling and outdoor frames, verified for polarization efficiency and optical-grade transmittance.
PPrivate Label
Retail-ready products manufactured for a retailer or brand to sell under its own identity, often from a catalog platform with logo and packaging changes; see private label smart glasses.
PPVT (Production Validation Test)
The final pilot build on real tooling, real lines and production staff, verifying yields and cycle times before MP release. PVT success is the gate for the bulk production deposit.
RREACH
The EU regulation on registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals. REACH documentation (including SVHC declarations) is maintained for current platforms; see certifications.
RRoHS
The EU directive restricting hazardous substances (lead, cadmium, mercury and others) in electrical and electronic equipment. Components and PCBA are sourced RoHS-compliant with supporting declarations.
TERMS S – Z

S – Z — definitions for sourcing smart glasses

SSMT (Surface-Mount Technology)
The automated process placing components directly onto PCB surfaces using solder paste and reflow ovens. SMT quality depends on SPI, reflow profiles, AOI and controlled ESD conditions; see manufacturing.
TTCF (Technical Construction File)
The compliance evidence bundle — schematics, BOM, test reports, risk analysis and manuals — proving a product meets CE/FCC requirements. CYNRIN prepares the TCF in the brand customer’s name.
TTooling
Molds, fixtures and test jigs made for a product, such as frame injection molds and assembly fixtures. Customer-paid tooling is the customer’s exclusive property, tagged and stored for repeat orders.
TTR90
A lightweight, flexible nylon-based frame material common in sports and optical eyewear: durable, shock-resistant and comfortable for all-day wear. TR90, nylon and PC are the standard frame materials on CYNRIN platforms.
UUN38.3
The UN test standard lithium batteries must pass before air or sea transport. UN38.3 summaries and the MSDS are prepared for every battery shipment, including FBA-bound cartons; see shipping.
UUV400
A lens specification meaning the lens blocks ultraviolet wavelengths up to 400 nm — essentially all UVA and UVB. Every sunglass-grade lens program is verified for UV400 on the optical bench.
WWaveguide Display
An optical element that projects virtual images into the wearer’s view through a thin lens structure. Waveguides define much of the cost and FOV trade-off in AR smart glasses and remain a specialized ODM architecture.
